CHAMPION MARE SHOT

Queensland Owner’s Loss Brisbane, May 20. At the Ipswich Show, Mr. 11. D. Bel-, senleiter. in announcing the scratching of his champion Clydesdale mare Meadow Bank Phyllis from compel i tion, stated that she had been deliberately shot in one of his paddocks by an unknown trespasser. The horse had been shot nt close range, two bullet wounds being found near the shoulder blade and foreleg, while there was also a gaping wound near the heart which apparently had been imide by such a weapon as a bayonet The mare, which was imported from .New Zealand in 1931, cost 350 guineas, and was the female champion at the Brisbane Royal Exhibition last year.
