CHARGE DISPROVED
Alleged Attempt to Defeat Justice By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wanganui, May 20. Henry William Hurley, a butcher, of Waitotara. charged with intent to defeat the course of justice, was acquitted by the jury in the Supreme Court to-day and discharged. It was alleged Hurley attempted to interfere with a witness in his employ in a case in ,-which a young wan, another employee, was charged with indecent assault. Evidence was given that accused endeavoured to persuade the witness to say that he was not sure of a' statement he had made to Detective Packman. The defence was a complete denial of the allegation and that the conversations the accused had with the employee related to the signing of the wages book.
