ISLAND BAY LEAGUE OF MOTHERS
The Masonic Hall, Island Bay, was well filled when the Island Bay-Berham-pore branch of the League of Mothers held the May meeting. Mrs. Knox Gilmer gave a delightful talk on gardening. After speaking briefly of the importance of using profitably the hours of leisure, now to be further extended, and explaining how gardening was an admirable pastime, the speaker discussed practical matters, and demonstrated how to prune a rosebush and prepare cuttings. A very hearty vote of thanks was passed to Mrs. Knox Gilmer, and those present eagerly availed themselves of the offer of the numerous plants and cuttings brought along to illustrate the address. Vocal solos by Mrs. Matheson were much enjoyed, and afternoon tea was served by the committee.
The Reverend Mother and Sisters of the Home of Compassion, Island Bay, offer their sincerest thanks to the Garment Society for the quantity of useful garments—lBs new and 200 nearly-new —received last week.
