LONDON WOOL MARKET Europe an Unsettling Factor By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright. London, May 17. 11. Dawson, Sons and Co., Bradford, in commenting oil the outlook for the wool market, says tjjat there was a slight recession at the opening London sales, though necessary in the adjustment of the March scarcity. The rates paid disturbed confidence. The paucity of supplies for the next four months, however, should tend to lift values, but the fact remains that topmakers cannot make higher prices. , The European outlook continues Io be an unsettling factor in the wool market. France is reported to be holding stocks of raw material as nn insurance against devaluation of the franc, and these stocks may come on to the market for realisation. This summer will be the testing time of values which, notwithstanding the strong statistical position of the raw material, are sustained only by the remarkable prosperity of the British woollen trade. Exporters are gratified at the Irish Free State Government’s decision to abolish the import tax of 10/- per cental on wool, both raw and waste, entering the Free State. Murray, Roberts and Co.. Ltd., have received a cable message from their London agents giving the following comparison between the closing rates of the London wool sales last week and in March :— Closing Closing rates. rates.
