View From Mount Victoria
Sir—A Sydneyite once remarked to me “What would Sydney give to have a Mount Victoria in the middle of the city for sightseeing I” The view rom the signal station, particularly, would indeed be hard to beat. . , , Tho remark of one of the Maori lads who recently visited Wellington that the cit v Mas noisy and emoky” 'impels me to pen these few lines. I frequently make a pilgrimage to the top of this hill an have noticed that the morning view is much clearer all round than is the afternoon. To anyone viewing the city from Mount Victoria in the afternoon and looking toward the sun, a haze, appears, wiving the iinprwsion that the city is enveloped in a smoky atmosphere. To disprove this one need only go to Kelburn and looking toward Mount 5 ictona thia haze is almost absent. By confining their trips to the afternoon, the City Corporation officials responsible for the sight-seeing bus service are hardly fair to visitors or to the city, as trips give a wrong impression.—l am, tIC ” WE LLINGTON lAN.
