Wellington Symphony Orchestra

Sir, —After reading your article in today's issue concerning the Wellington .Symphony Orchestra, the thought occurred to my mind whether the present subscription rates are too high to attract persons to become annual subscribers. There are probably many people who, prior to the depression, could afford a guinea, but now half that sum is the limit they are prepared to pay for, an annual donation to any musical or similar organisation. After adding entertainment' tax for each concert and fares to and from the Town Hall, the cost becomes prohibitive to many admirers of the orchestra and its work in the city, as the public to which the appeal is now made comprises in the majority of cases middle and lower classes, and not necessarily moneyed people.-I am, e ‘«” XDONKI{ Wellington, May 16.
