VISIT TO PALMERSTON

Boys From Wellington Y.M.C.A. Dominion Special Service. Palmerston North, May IS. After spending the greater part of four days in Palmerston North, a party of 20 junior boys between the ages of 14 and 16 from the Wellington Y.M.C.A. returned to-day. The party, which met lads from the local Y.M.C.A. in various sports and other activities, was under the control of the works director, Mr. H. J. Steptoe. A soccer match resulted in a draw, each side scoring two goals. The match was played at a fast pace and was productive of some clever footwork. The first goal was scored by Sime (Wellington), who beat the goalie with a pretty shot. Shortly afterward Harkness (Manawatu) saw an opening and shot a hot goal, to which Sime soon replied witli another good kick. Dur ing tlie second spell the game improved slightly and Harkness was responsible for equalising the score. In the evening indoor sports were played, the home team winning the A and B sections of the basketball, as well as A and C sections of the relay, visitors carrying off tlie B section in this event. This gave Manawatu the lead by 25 points to 10. The home team outclassed the visit ing fifteen in practically every department of the Rugby match, winning by 18 points to 3. Nevertheless, tlie match was a bright, and open display.

For Manawatu E. Seward opened the scoring with a try. Sweeney evened for the visitors with a penalty kick. but. shortly before half-time K. The table tennis matches were won by Wellington, but points were shared in the dodgeball, giving the home team an aggregate win by 40 points to 20. Yesterday afternoon the visitors were taken for a lour round the city and environs ami in (lie evening they attended Divine service. Following a farewell meeting to-day the party left by train for Wellington.
