DEATH OF WOMAN
Struck by Motor-cycle TWO MEN ALSO HURT By Telegraph.—Press Association. Christchurch, May 18. Mrs. Helen Adam, aged 56, died in the Christchurch Hospital last evening as the result of an accident in Ferrv Road when she was struck by a motor-cycle and received severe head injuries and a compound fracture of the right leg. The rider of the motor-cycle, J. Raistrick. of 60 Antigua Street, received head injuries which necessitated an operation and his condition is serious. L. Mehner, of 10 Disraeli Street, who was riding on the pillion, also had to be operated upon _ for severe head injuries, but his condition was stated to be not so serious as that of Raistrick. Mrs. Adam was crossing Ferry Road near the intersection with Grafton Street about 5.50 p.m. She had almost reached the pavement when she was struck by tile motor-cycle which was going toward the city. Wehner was thrown toward the footpath and struck a lamp-post. . The condition of both the injured men was reported this morning to be slightly improved. FATAL COLLISION Injured Man Dies in Hospital By Telegraph—Press Association. Ashburton, May 18. Frank Newman, bushman, aged 64. of 47 Wills Street, Ashburton, who received a compound fracture of the base of the skull when his motor-cycle collided with a motor-ear at Ashburton at noon on Saturday, died in hospital at 10.20 p.m. the same day.
