HOLMES 171 NOT OUT
English County Cricket London, May 15. E. R. T. Holmes, captain of the M.C.C. team which visited Australia and New Zealand, was again in good batting form in the series of county cricket matches which was completed to-day, making 171 not out for Surrey against Hampshire. Leyland also ran up another big score, making 141 £>r Yorkshire against Oxford University Among a number of bowlers wno returned good figures, Jehangir Khan (Cambridge) was outstanding with six wickets for 11 runs against Warwickshire, who were dismissed for 43 in tile first innings, Warwickshire also went cheaply in the second innings when Woolier took seven wickets for 20 runs. Verity (Yorkshire) was in deadly form, taking eight wickets for 56 runs and seven for 73. Results are:
Middlesex v. Essex, at Lord’s—Essex 213 and 193 (Robins five for 40), Middlesex 183 and 176 (Stephenson five for 53). Essex won by 47 runs. Hampshire v. Surrey, at the Oval — Hampshire 267 (Gover six for 61) and 309 for eight (Creese 94 not out). Surrey 593 for nine declared (Holmes 171 not out. Barling 91, Fishlock 89). Surrey won on the first innings. Lmcashire v. Leicestcrsliire, at Leicester.—Lancashire 290 and 219 Cor eight. Leicestershire 405 for nine declared (Geary 62). Leicestershire won on the first innings. Derbyshire v. Kent, at Gravesend. Derbyshire 119 (Freeman seven for 29) and 95 (Wright five for 31). Kent 179 (Copson five for 57) and 42 for none. Kent won by ten wickets. Sussex v. Glamorgan, at Swansea.Sussex 291 (James Langridge 76) and 137 (Reed five for 30). Glamorgan 289 (E. Davies 130: James Langridge five for 51) and 36 for one wicket. Sussex won on the first innings. Oxford University v. Yorkshire, at Oxford.— Oxford 150 (Verity eight for 56) and 166 (Verity seven fo r 73). Yorkshire 356 (Leyiland 141). Yorkshire won by an innings and 40 runs Cambridge University v. Warwickshire, at Cambridge.— Cambridge 243 and 199. Warwickshire 43 (Jehangir Khan six for 11) and 112 (Woolier seven for 20). Cambridge won by 287 runs. INDIAN TEAM’S MATCHES ( Received May 17. 6.30 pan. > London, May 16. In a match against the Indian touring team, Marylebone in their first innings made 352 (Hendren 88. Wyatt 65, Allen 54. Human 115). India had made 6 runs for no wickets at stumps The match between the Indians and Northamptonshire was drawn. In reply to the Indians’ score of 405 for nine wickets, declared, Northamptonshire made 242 (Amar Singh four Cor 52) and, following on, 275 for one (Allen 90, Grimshaw 73 not out, Bake well 100 not out).
