Championship Winners at Competitions I’alinerston North, May 16. During the final grand demonstration concert of the Manawatu Competitions Society’s 1936 festival in the I’almerslon North Opera House last night, the president, Mr. J. A. Nash, thanked the competitors for making such a success of the festival and congratulated them on their splendid efforts. Mr. Nash also referred to the work of the secretary, Mr. K. G. Chamberlain, the judges, and all other officials who had toiled to make the festival such a memorable one. Mr. Nash presented the certificates to the championship and special prize-winners as follows :— Women’s vocal championship: Miss 11. Sutherland (Palmerston North). 11) points. Men’s vocal championship: Mr. C. W. Shirriffs (Longburn), 15 points. Women’s elocutionary championship: Miss G. Whittaker (I’almerston North), 16 points. Girls’ elocutionary championship: I vena I’otban (Hastings), 7 points. Boys’ elocutionary championship: Russell Jackson (Bunnytliorpe), 13 points. Operatic dancing championship: Miss V, Oram (Palmerston North), JO points. National dancing championship: Miss I. McKenzie (Palmerston North), 16 points. Miss G. Gibbs's special prize for operatic dancing: Miss M. I’egdcn (Palmerston North). 20 points. Society’s special prize for any fancy dance, under 7 years: Audrey Rankin (Murton). 71 points. Society’s special prize for clia racier recital: Brian llnsler (Hasiings). 17 points It was staled (lint Miss V. Hayes (Hastings), performed at last night’s concert, but tbai was incorrect. Miss V. Platt (Lower Hutt), taking her place, and giving very good exhibitions. In the reading nt sight (under 12) class. Gower was re-electi*d chairman, and Mr. IV. E. Barber treasurer. The hoard decided to strike a rate of 7-Bd. per acre for the ensuing year.
