The People’s Health
Sir, —While appreciating the remarks of Dr. Ulric Williams in relation to the health of children, I think that if- every home became a health camp there would be less need of so many hospitals, sanatoria, and asylums. It is deplorable to think of the amount of malnutrition among children, especially when almost every baby is apparently healthy at birth. Surely the responsibility of the child rests iii the first place with the parents, and one wonders if all parents are doing all in their power to give their children every opportunity to become healthy citizens, or if (as the tendency is nowadays), for the child to be allowed to decide its own line of action in regard to its food habits and general behaviour. Although many parents are unable to give their children every essential to well-being, they use what resources they have to the best advantage. There are many more, 1 am sure, who could do a great deal toward helping themselves aud their children toward better health, rather than depend so much on the help of others .to remedy the trouble, which, after all, is more often the result of indulgence rather than of poverty.—l am, etc.. HELPER. Hastings, May 16.
