WEDDINGS

Barltrop—Rodgers St. Patrick’s Church, Palmerston North, was the scene recently of the marriage of Ursula, third daughter of the late Air. and Airs. C. Rodgers, Palmerston North, to Clifton, eldest son of Air. and Airs. J. C. Barltrop, Feilding. Alonslgueur MacManus officiated at the ceremony. The bride, who was escorted by her elder brother, Air. T. A. Rodgers, wore a gown of white matalasse crepe. The slim-fitting bodice was cut with a cowl neckline and was caught on either side by a spray of orange blossom and an heirloom brooch of garnets. From a cowled shoulder, the long tight-fitting sleeves continued to form a point over the hands. The skirt fell away to form a full-length train, the gown being finished with a silver lame girdle. The beautiful lace veil, which was lent by Airs, J. Griggs, was set well back on the head, ami was caught by a circle of orange blossom, and fell to form a second train. She carried a sheaf of white madonna lilies, white gladioli, pink heath and maidenhair fern and asparagus fern, tied witli a bow of white corded ribbon. The bride was attended by her sister. Kathleen, whose frock was of pale pink floral georgette with full puffed sleeves, shirred at the shoulders and waistline, from which fell a sash of pink velvet. She wore a hat of pink net, with pleated brim, and carried a sheaf of pink gladioli, dahlias, roses and maidenhair fern tied witli a pink corded ribbon. The best man was Mr. Howard Tolley, of Wellington. A reception was held later at St. Patrick’s Hall, where the guests were received by Aliss Irene Rodgers, who wore a pale blue two-piece suit with hat to match, and carried a bouquet of pink charm dahlias and roses, and Aliss Alary Rodgers, who was in a navy spotted suit, with hat to match. Her bouquet was of scarlet velottas. dahlias and scarlet, foliage. Assisting them was Airs. J. E. Barltrop, mother of the bridegroom, who wore a black frock and hat and carried a bouquet of scarlet dahlias and berries. AVlien Air. and Airs. C. Barltrop left, the bride was wearing a navy frock of crepe akita, trimmed with pink, with a pleated collar, and shoes, gloves, hat and bag to match.

A stunning cocktail frock, walking length, is simply made of black uncrushable velvet. A full back skirt panel is handsomely gauged, just below the waist-line. Wide sleeves of black net appliqued witli velvet are gathered into velvet cuffs. Another most effective cocktail suit has a long black skirt of heavy sntin-backed maroeain, very smartly split, with a plain gold lame jumper open up the back, long sleeves and a bolt with sasli ends. VCry smart! A lovely dinner frock of black velvet has a high cowl neck, long wide sleeves shaped into a narrow cuff. A very chic finish is a thick rolled tiebelt, the ends terminating in long handsome silk tassels. An evening frock with a low-cut back is of uncrushable midnight blue velvet, very simple in line. It is perfect for the jeune fille and has a becoming little cape of the velvet fastened with two velvet flowers. Agnes Samson, Lambton Quay—Advt.
