VARIED PROGRAMME

Thespians’ Play Evening The Thespians’ second one-act play evening of this year drew a large and enthusiastic audience of members and friends at St. Francis Hall last night. The programme provided varied and interesting fare —a one-act. play, two extracts from “’The Hairy Ape." a sketch, and a comedy, which was the first and very commendable presentation of the newly-inaugurated Junior Thespians. The two extracts from “The Hairy Ape,” Eugene O’Neill’s brilliant play, though they were not complete and did not express even the central idea of tlie play, served as an excellent study in contrast, and were particularly interesting for that reason. Air. D. G. Edwards was the producer, and the following took part: Geraldine Gallagher, Eileen Hill, Bligh Pickering, Alax Willis, Raymond Hedges, John Hopkins and Frank Tomlinson. The first extract had for its background the promenade deck of an Atlantic liner, ami the stokehold of the same ship, a few minutes later, was the second setting. “Object AU Sublime,” a one-act play bv Fred Ferris, was played by Charles Acheson, F. S. Hill. S. Tansley and Warren Toogood, and was portrayed in the library of “Air. Justice Travis.” Air. Evan Harrowell produced this play, and the stage management was in the hands of Air. J. Lloyd. “T’ Pup”—a comedy ; scene —Air. Brigg’s cottage, was a most amusing little presentation. The Junior Thespians who took part, with Air. A. D. Priestly as producer, were D. Hartley, Betty Lloyd and E. de Manny.

At the conclusion of this programme supper, which the energetic social committee served in the downstairs room, was enjoyed, while the hall was being cleared for the dance Hint followed. Au excellent orchestra provided popular music, and, as is usual on these occasions, large numbers stayed to enjoy several hours’ dancing.
