CARE OF TEETH
Petone Clinic Finances Although there are over 600 children from tlie five schools of the district on the roll of the Petone Hentnl Clinic there was only a small attendance at the annual meeting on Thursday evening. Mr. J. C. Burns presided. The annual report stated that there were also a number of under-age children on the roll, but with the readmission of tlie five-year-old children to the schools the majority of these had now been absorbed in the school roll. It was doubtful whether any more un-der-school-age children could be accepted, as there were now more children seeking admission from the schools than one nurse could cope with. The position had become acute, but in view of the shortage of trained dental nurses the committee had refrained from approaching the department for an additional nurse. The clinic was in a sound financial position and the number of children in arrears with their fees was very small. The number of children treated and the collection of fees exceeded the totals of previous years. The past year was the most successful yet experienced. Mr. Burns referred appreciatively to the work of Nurse Grocott. The committee had not harassed the Government for another nurse, as one was not available, but the clinic had a credit balance and’could afford to get another nurse when one was available. Mr. Burns said he agreed with the recommendation that those whose fees were too far in arrears should be taken off the books. The following committee was elected : Messrs. J. C. Burns, G. Fairbairn, J. A. Ash. G. Bevans. T. G. Caldwell. W. .1. Jarvis, F. New. J. Richards, D. S. Packwood. AV. Taplin, F. Linney and the Rev. Father O’Brien. Mr. Burns was re-elect-ed chairman and Mr. Fairbairn secretary.
