Association With ShawSavill Vessels Dominion Special Service. . Dunedin, May 13. AVith the departure from Port Chalmers to-day for London of the Shaw, Savill and Albion motor-ship Coptic a new link was forged in tlie chain of association extending over a period of more than 90 years bettveen n New Zealand family and the Mercantile Marine. In 1848 Captain AV. Renaut came to Port Chalmers in the ship Blundell. His son, Captain C. H. Renaut, paid several visits to the port in tlie 'sixties and avus in command of the Shaw, Savill vessel Crusader on one of these occasions. Some years later he was followed by his son, Captain C. Al. Renaut, who, after serving in Shaw, SavlU’s sailing-ships, was in the employ of the Union Steam Ship Company until he joined the Marine Department, in which he later became superintendent of Mercantile Marine at Lyttelton, from which he retired last year. A member of the fourth generation, Air. J. O. Renaut, son of Captain C. Al. Renaut, has now followed in the steps of his father and has signed on as assistant electrician for the homeward passage of the Coptic. Mr. Renaut has not yet decided Avhether he will take up a seafaring career.
