THESPIANS’ PLAY
“fTHE most, indigestible part I have X ever played.” is the way in which Sir Cedric Hardwicke, the famous English actor, described his part as the constantly-hungry, everlastingly lazy brother-in-law in “Laburnum Grove,” J. B. Priestley's “immoral comedy” which is to be presented by the Thespians in June. Sir Cedric also produced the play in London, when the loading part was taken by Edmund Gwenn as the apparently quiet, easygoing, middle-class Londoner, whose brother-in-law. and daughter’s fiance think him so dull that be is certain to lend them any money they may require. However, before the play ends he succeeds in giving them all a bad fright, and showing that he is not quite so commonplace and easy-going as they thought. In the Thespian production this delightful part is to be played by O. N. Gillespie, and others in the cast include Vera Horton, as Ills wife, Mrs. Radfern, A. D. Priestley as Bernard Baxley, the brother-in-law; Dorothy Tansley, Betty Wilson, Myles F. E Wright, Reg. Larkin, and Evan Harrowell. The play is being produced by Victor S. Lloyd, the director of the Thespians, Winnie Cooiey is the assistant producer, the stage manager is H. A. Painter, aud the property mistresses, Isabel Burton and Peggy Lucas.
