“THE MIKADO”
Enthusiastic Last Night The extreme popularity of the J. C. Wililnmsoii Gilbert and Sullivan opera company was strikingly revealed at the farewell performance of “The Mikado at t)ie Grand Opera House last evening. Despite the inclement weather, a large audience was in most appreciative mood, and encores were the order of tlie evening. There was a scene of rare enthusiasm at the close of the performance, the women firincipals receiving many beautiful floral tributes, and the curtain having to be raised many times. Mr. Ivan Menzies was in his most humorous vein in thanking tlie people of Wellington, on behalf of the management and members of the company, for the generous way in which the company had been treated during the season. They had made many friends in Wellington, he said, nnd felt sure that whenever a return visit was paid they would be as welcome as “The Flowers That Bloom in the Spring.”
