"RICHARD OF BORDEAUX”
Gordon Daviot's historical play, “Richard of Bordeaux,” is to be staged by the Wellington Repertory Theatre Society in the Town Hall Concert Chamber for six performances, commencing this evening. Richard the Second of England is 18 years of age when the play opens. His uncles, the Dukes of Lancaster (John of Gaunt), York, and Gloucester, are opposed to hi,s ideals and his foreign policy and are trying to control him in Parliament. Lancaster has u son, the Earl of Derby: York has a.son, the Earl of Rutland. The Earl of Arundel has commanded the King’s army, and Thomas Arundel, Archbishop of Canterbury, if, his brother. Robert de Vere, Earl of Oxford, the King's friend, died in exile in 1389. Thomas Mowbray, Earl of Nottingham. and subsequently the first. Duke of Norfolk, died iiaexile in 1399. Richard the Second died at Pontefract (Pomfret > Castle in 1399, but whether by foul play ov from natural causes is a matter Ot doubt. “Richard of Bordeaux” will be produced by Mr. W. S. Wauchop on a scale not hitherto attempted by this society, and the east will include Mrs. Craig Mackenzie, Mrs. Jnsper Baldwin, Joan Smith, Muriel Wylie, Kathleen Williams, Edwina Vare, G. 11. A.
