WAR RELIEF
Association’s Activities
A meeting of the executive committee of the Wellington War Belief Association took place yesterday. The chairman, Mr. L. O. H. Tripp, presented reports on the month’s activities. The emergency committee met on 17 occasions since the executive meeting of March 31, and, during 20 working days, dealt with 29 claims. All were referred to and confirmed by the applications committee, which met on two occasions and disposed of 39 applications. There were 43 applications still under action, and the total number of claims received amounted to 144. Tiie number of persons who called at the office during the period mentioned was 82.
There had been no alteration in the general activities of the committee. Assistance, differing widely in description, had been given to disabled soldiers, to men who were discharged tit and subsequently developed a war disability, and to widows of soldiers who fell in action and of others dying of natural causes. Assistance had also been given to many others in necessitous circumstances, and in many directions that could not be referred to within the limits of the report. The finance committee held one ordinary meeting since the executive committee met on February 19, and dealt with the usual financial affairs of the association. Accounts amounting to £123/12/10 were passed for payment. The only investments now possessed by the association were those standing to the credit of fund A, fn the common fund of the Public Trustee, “The Sick and Wounded Soldiers’ Fund.” The only resources available to the fund “B” for fit men in necessitous circumstances are those received by grants from the National War Funds Council.
