A PRIVY COUNCILLOR

The elevation of the Prime Minister to the Privy Council was mentioned in the House of Representatives last evening by the Rt. Hon. J. G. Coates (Opposition, Kaipara), and members gave Mr. Savage a warm hand-clap. The honour which hud been done the Prime Minister showed once again what a democracy meant, Mr. Coates said, There was no limit to the height to which a man could rise provided he could show his worth. Speaking later in the debate on the Primary Products Marketing Bill, Mr. Savage thanked Mr. Coates and Mr. H. Atmore (Independent, Nelson) for their congratulations. "I can do no better,” said Mr. Savage, “than say I will try to deserve the honour conferred upon me by the King and to deserve the congratulations of my friends.” DOMINION PRAISED Labour’s Legislation “ONLY COMMON SENSE” London, April 28. Commending New Zealand’s “amazing record of rapid, honest, and businesslike government,” the “Daily Herald’’ draws attention to the Dairy Products Marketing Bill and points out that this and the nationalisation of the Reserve Bank involve the transference of economic power from private into public hands. “Such measures provoke here panicky predictions of ruin,” says the “Daily Herald,” “but they are no more than common sense.” BROADCASTING DEBATES Suggestion For Canberra Canberra, April 29. In the House of Representatives today, Mr. F. M. Baker, a Queensland Labour member, will submit a proposal to the Prime Minister that the proceedings in the Federal Parliament be broadcast.
