GOOD YEAR’S WORK
Growth of St. James’s Parish Congratulations to the vicar, the Rev. 11. E. K. Fry, upon the way in which he had carried out his duties, were extended at the annual meeting of St. James's Church, Lower Hutt, this. week. A steady growth was recorded in the annual report, which stated that the weekly envelope offertory system had now become definitely established, and had proved a great help to church finance. The amount received from the envelopes had been £684, and in addition the cash offertories were £321. The year, had ended with a cash balance of £2OO/6/11. Special missionary offertories to the amount of £156/18/1 bad been raised, and for other missions £66/16/1. The loss of the services of the Rev. J. R. Neild as curate was recorded, and the hope was expressed that another curate would be appointed in September. The need for two curates to assist in the work of the large parish was expressed. Mrs. V. Riddiford and all who assisted in the garden fete were thanked for the effort, which added £220 to the ciiureh fund. Out of this £2OO had been transferred to the new church building fund, which now stood at £697. A memorial Bible has been, placed on the lectern in memory of the late Mrs. Kemptborne.
