Dumbarton By-election London, March 19. The Dumbarton by-election necessitated by Com. the Hon. A. D. Cochrane’s appointment as Governor-Gen-eral of Burma, resulted as follows: — Mr. T. Cassels (Lab.) 20,187 Mr. Duffes, K.C, (Con.) 19,203 Mr. R. Gray (Scottish Nat.) .. 2,599 Labour majority 984 The result represents a Labour gain. There was a 68 per cent. poll. The result of the election last November was: Com. the Hon. A. D. Cochrane (Con.), 24,776; T. Cassells (Lab.), 20,679; R. Gray (Scottish Nat.), 3841.
