Licensing of Bookmakers By Telegraph—Press Association. Christchurch, February 29. “Cabinet lias not yet considered the licensing' of bookmakers,” said the Alinister of Labour (the Hon. H. T. Armstrong) in an interview. Air. Armstrong said he had twice in troduced such a Bill to Parliament when he was a private member, and on one occasion it ijad got as far as passing the second reading. He had obtained the evidence of racing and trotting authorities, racecourse detectives and religious bodies, and when the Bill had been referred to the Statutes Revision Committee it had received favourable recommendation, but it had got no further. “Of course, if the question comes up now it will go to Air. Parry, the Minister of Internal Affairs, and he supported both my Bills when they were before Parliament,” added Mr. Armstrong.
