SUCCESSFUL GARDEN PARTY
The large lawn of the Red Cross Hospital, Hobson Street, with its beautiful view of the harbour, made a perfect setting on Saturday afternoon for a successful garden party, held in aid of Red Cross funds. There was an excellent attendance, and all who contributed toward the organisation of the party are to be congratulated on the result of their efforts. The garden party was officially opened by Dr. A, Gillies president of the Wellington Centre of the Red Cross Society, who was met by Mr. M. S, Galloway, secretary of 'the centre, Mrs. DennistouuWood, president of the Social, Club of the Wellington centre, and Mrs. M. Downes, secretary. Numerous well-stocked stalls did thriving business, and those in charge of afternoon tea had an especially busy time. The various side-shows attracted much attention ami provided amusement for all present. Those in charge of stalls were:— Sweets: Mrs. Wray, Mrs. Haslett, Mrs. Y. Hamburg, Mrs. Bradstock, Miss M. Gibbous (ice creams) ; flowers: Mrs. L. IL Angus, Mrs. S. Myers, Miss L. Hughes; cakes: -Mrs. Latham, Mrs. Stevens, Mrs. Galloway; fancy: Mrs. Little, Mrs. Pearce, Miss Patterson; afternoon tea: A.D.’s, under .Sister Stringer; produce: Mrs. Eilwards, Mrs, Cooper; bran dip: Miss Barbara Dennistoun-Wood, Master Vernon Downes; side-shows: Toe H. During the afternoon there were exhibitions of fancy dancing by pupils of Miss I’hyliis Qlliver and of national dancing by pupils of Miss Adeleine Burnette
