SWIMMING CARNIVAL

Thrilling Finishes at Te Aro Baths SEVERAL NEW RECORDS In perfect weather and before a large crowd the Wellington Amateur Swimming Club's annual carnival was held at Te Aro Baths on Saturday afternoon. With the exception of the Wellington men’s 220 yd& breaststroke championship, which wae won easily by the holder, K. Spry, the finishes were practically all decided on the touch. The only disappointment was the poor response from the primary schools tor the Coltman Cup, a relay event staged each season for girls’ teams of four-a-side. There were two entries, Queen Margaret College and Clyde Quay, but when the the event came up for decision the Clyde Quay team failed to take the board, Queen Margaret taking the cup by swimming the full course. Had Spry been pushed he might have still further reduceu the time. The second record was estaolished in the Walker and Hall flying squadron relay of 500 yards, in whica the Wellington club team reduced the existing record by 1 2-Efeec., its time being 5.13 1-5, and the previous record t>.l4 3-u.
