Spectacular Riding at National Meeting R. GILES OUTSTANDING Three Men Injured in TenMile Race Dominion Special Service. Wanganui, March 1. Spectacular track riding was witnessed on Cook’s Gardens on Saturday afternoon and evening, when the Aew Zealand amateur cycling championships were held. All the best riders from all parts of the country attended, and the standard of competition was excellent. Ibere was a very large attendance, especially at the evening session. K. Giles, Canterbury, won the three major titles, the 1000 metres trial championship, 1000 metres sprint championship, and the ten-milc human-paced championship. • In the first, and last title events, F. J. Grose, also of Canterbury, was runner-up. The ten-mile race was the best congest of the meeting. A field of 17 went to the post, and the contestants were paced for the greater part of the journey. So fast was the pace set at times the pacers were left in the rear. In the twelfth lap, Dwight, Auckland, burst a tire,-and this mishap resulted in a bad smash, in winch three other riders came down. They were Byrnes, and Tayor (Auckland), and K. Wilson (Wellington). All suffered abrasions, Wilson being the most badly cut about.' In the final lap Grose led Giles, but in the straight, Giles came with tremendous speed to win by a wheel. J. Gulliard (West Coast) was a length back third. ’ . . ~ The junior half-mile championship was won by C. 1/ Dwight, Auckland. There were several handicap cycling races, while ■ a number of athletic events helped to hold the interest of the crowd. The. following are the results:—

Grose flew around the course to win by four lengths in fast time. Lawrence also started, special heat. Wade, L Time, 13 2-5. Also started, Dwight. Made secured a good break, but Dwibht was close on his wheel at the First semi-final: Giles, 1. Time 13 aAlhO started, Byrne. Second semi-final Wade. 1 Time. 12 4-5. Also started F. J. Grote. Grose took the lead in the sprint, but Wade put on a wonderful spurt to wla bv a narrow margin. n . Final: Giles, 1: Wade, 2.
