FAREWELL TO PRIEST

Presentations to Father Griffin Over 200 residents of the Johnsonville district gathered recently to bid farewell to Rev. Father Grifliu, their parish priest. The chairman, Rev. Father Cavanagh, said that during the past 14 years Father Griffin had done great work in the parish. It was with regret that the district was losing Father Griffin after so many years of loyal and loving work, but the work he had done would always stand as a monument to the people he was leaving, and he felt sute that Father Griffin would continue to carry on good work in the parish of Kilbirnie. The Right Rev. Monsignor Connolly expressed his appreciation of the work of Father Griffin. ’who he himself had been associated with in the Kilbirnie parish 16 years ago. Mr. H. Bramley spoke on behaif of the ncm-Catholic people, thanking Father Griffin for all he bad done for them, and touching particularly on the cordial welcome he had always extended to all. On behalf of the parishioners, Mr. F. O'Neill spoke of the progress of the parish during the time Father Griffin had been in the district, and of his financial ability and progressive spirit, which had won the loyajty of the parishioners. On behalf of the’parishioners of Johnsonville he presented Father Griffin with a cheque. Miss O’Neill presented him with a fountain pen on behalf of the Johnsonville branch of the Children of Mary, and Mr. O’Neill a suitably inscribed book on behalf of the, ladies’ social committee Mr. Sievers presented Father Grifliu with a cheque on behalf of the Tawa Flat and Porirua district. Father Griffin returned thanks for the kind remarks that had been made about his work, and thanked the people for the loyal support and the appreciation they had shown him in the past. He hoped they would show even more loyal support to his successor, Bev. Father Evans.
