Deputation’s Request to Hon. R. Semple
By Telegraph—Press Association
Blenheim, February 10.
"It will be a question for Cabinet to decide,” said the Minister of Public Works (the Hon. R. Semple) to-day to a Marlborough Progressive League deputation, which raised the question of the completion of the South Island Main Trunk line. “I understand Mr. Savage has given a promise that this line will be completed. If he has given that promise you ’can take it from me that Mr. Savage will see that his promise is fulfilled. Anything that Mr. Savage has promised to do will be done as soon as it is humanly possible to do it.” The Minister told another deputation, which asked for new courthouse provision which would make available th? whole ground floor of the Government Buildings for a post office, that It had a legitimate grievance. He marvelled that the f°wn had put up with the conglomeration of buildings for so long. “It is my view that public buildings in a city should be an example not a Cinderella,” Mr. Semple added. "This is not an example; it is something! to be ashamed of.”
