Eastbourne Branch' Formed
' At a preliminary meeting recently con-, vened by those who were members of the Hon. W. Nash’s Eastbourne Election Committee, it was decided to make application to the national executive of the New Zealand Labour Party for registration of an Eastbourne branch. On a satisfactory reply being received, a further meeting of intending members of the Eastbourne branch was held on Friday night in the Masonic Hall. Mr. E. J. Appleton, secretary to the conveners of the meeting, who was in.the chair, stated that the principal business was to complete the formation of an Eastbourne branch* of the New Zealand .Labour Party by enrolling members and electing officers. Forty-one members were ent oiled, and the following office-bearers were-elected: President, Mr. P. J. Fitzgerald; Vicepresident, Mr. H. Tucker; secretarytreasurer, Mr. E. J. Appleton. was expressed that the branch, quite apart from its political aspect, would provide for members certain social amenities which were'at present lacking in the district, such as opportunity for debating matters of public'interest, access to a study circle, lectures followed by discussion, etc. ■ • - ■ ... • ■ / - It was decided to enter a tug-o’-war team for the sports at the Labour Party picnic on February 16. The formation of a women’s branch is to be discussed at the next meeting.
