Arrival at Auckland
By Telegraph—Press Association.
Auckland, January 21
The Lord Howe Island invalid who was taken aboard the Monowai under dramatic circumstances on Friday, Mrs. W. S. Nicholls, was able to talk to reporters on arrival at Auckland to-day. It was at first thought that au appendix operation would be necessary, but after consultation on the islands the doctors from the Monowai decided that the patient was suffering from an abdominal complaint and should be brought to Auckland for treatment.
Mr. and Mrs. Nicholls expressed their warm appreciation to the landing party and all who cared for the patient on the Monowai. Mr. Nicholls is descended from the pioneers of Lord Howe Island.
The passengers subscribed £5O for Mrs. Nicholls's treatment in Auckland.
