TENNIS CHAMPIONSHIPS
Hawke’s Bay Meeting Dainicvirkc, January 21. Napier is once again to be the place where the annual excursion of the Dannevirke Friendly Society is to be held. The trains will leave Dannevirke at the usual times, 6.55 a.m. and 7.20 a.m„ but for the return journey the trains willjeave Napier a little earlier, 6 p.m. and 6.25 p.m. Tennis Finals. The finals of the Hawke’s Bay tennis championships were concluded yesterday afternoon in ideal tennis weather. The following are the results:— Ladies’ handicap singles: Miss G. Wl.liams beat Miss G. McNicol, 14-12. Men’s handicap doubles: McCarthy and Fisher beat White and Slater, 9-2. Ladies’ handicap doubles. Semi-finals: Miss Plummer and Mrs. Swann beat Mrs. Fennell and Miss Fitzgerald, 9-4. Final: Miss Plummer and Mrs. Swann won by default from Mrs. Toop and Mrs. Latta. Combined bondienp doubles: Shand nnd Mrs. Swann boat Campbell and Miss J. Armstrong, 9-5. Personals.
Lady Wnvertree, of England, who has been hblidavmaking in the Dominion since the end of November, was a visitor to Dannevirke during the week-end, where she attended the tennis tournament.
