NAVAL CONFERENCE

Measure of Agreement London, January 17. A communique states that the FourPower Naval Conference continued the examination of the French, British and Italian plans for a system of advance notification of annual programmes aud exchanges of information, and also discussed guiding rules which might be followed in the even’, of the adoption of the proposal. The conference appointed a sub-com mittee representative of Britain, Canada. India, the United States, France, and Italy, to work out details, aud then adjourned till January 21, when it will discuss qualitative limitation of armaments.

It is understood that the conference reached a considerable measure of agreement. The sub-committee’s task will be merely that of rounding off the proposals. 'rhe Tokio correspondent of “The Times” says that the “Japan Times” declares that, if the four Po'wers work out an agreement limiting navies Japan’s compliance is certain when the atmosphere has undergone a satisfactory change.
