Building Over Fifty Years Old By Telegraph—Press Association. Christchurch, January 19. Damage estimated at £lOOO was caused by tire in the Church of the Holy Angels. Darfield, late on Saturday’night. The church, which is more than 50 years old. was completely destroyed, in spite of the efforts of volunteer fire-fighters. Father JI. J. M.eMonagle, the priest in charge, said everything was in order when he visited the church at about 8.30 p.m. About an hour later he saw the church iu flames. The lire quickly gained a strong hold on the dry timber. He summoned the assistance of people who had beeu at the Darfield picture show, but the church was soon destroyed, also valuable vestments, furnishings and statues.
