WOMAN KILLED
Motor-car Collides With Taxi on Hutt Road
MAN SERIOUSLY INJURED
A woman was killed and a man was severely injured when the motor-car the woman was driving ami -i taxi co - lided at the corner of Beaumont Avenue and the Hutt Road at about 8.15 p.m. on Saturday. The driver of the taxi escaped uninjured. One of his three passengers was slightly cut over the eye by flying glass. The others were not hurt. Those in the motor-car were:— Lillian Ellen Lowery, aged C l, of 174 Oriental Parade—fatal injuries to the head and neck. Charles Mildenliall, of 220 Oriental Parade —fractured right leg, severe head injuries, and concussion. Mrs. Lowery was driving north along the Hutt Road and turned her car to go into Beaumont Avenue. It was hi 1 by the taxi, which was coming along Hie Hutt Road from the opposite direction, almost head on. The front of Mrs. Lowery’s car was smashed back into the body, and Mrs. Lowery was killed almost instantaneously. Mr. Mildenliall, who was silling alongside Mrs. Lowery, was lifted out of the ear and given attention until the Wei lington Free Ambulance arrived. 'The taxi was driven by Owen Lester Jarrett, of 24 Boulcott Street, Lower Hutt, and had three passengers, a man ami woman and their daughter. Mr. Mildenliall was taken to Ihe Wellington Hospital. Late last night his condition was reported to be very low.
