4 Star Wins Mothes Shield IDEAL CONDITIONS Forging ahead in the last four events, Star won the Mothes Shield from Wellington at the rowing regatta which was held at Petone on Saturday. By halfway through the programme Petone had gained the most points, but from then on Star took the lead. The final points . were: Star, 33 ; Petone, 24; -Wellington. 13. With almost ideal rowing conditions, some good ‘finishes were seen. All even ts were rowed in clinker boats over a mile course. At the conclusion of the regatta, Mr. F. IV. Mothes, donor of the shield, made the presentation to Mr. C. Turner, captain of the Star Boating Club. Results are as follow:— Maiden Double Sculls. —Star (T. Alexander and B. Webb), 1; Wellington (R. Tregurtha and H. Spoor), 2; Petone. 3. Star led from the start and beat Wellington by three-quarters of a length. Junior Fours.—Petone No. 1 (D. Boswell, G. Leopard, I. Carter, 0. Anderson), 1; Star (L. Hosting. A. Lawson, J. Peters, F. Eggers). 2: Wellington No. 2. 3. Also started, Petone No. 2. Four lengths separated the finishers. Maiden Fours.—Petone No. 1 (W. Watson, J. Tegg. A. Lennie, R. Gurr), 1; Star No. 1 (D. Didsbury. G. Gibbons, S. Sidford, G. Broad), 2; Wellington, 3. Won by a length. Open Double Sculls.—Petone (L. Abbott and C. Gimblett), 1: Wellington IT. Luke and E. Woolcott), 2. Petone surged ahead and won by two lengths. Malden Single Scull.—Wellington (R Tregurtha), 1; Star-18. Webb), 2; Petone (L. Benge). 3. Won by two lengths. Senior Fours. —Petone (0. Clayton, A. Hope. R. Sharon, B. Crane), 1; Star (G. Cooke, F. Mullins, J. Thodey, A. Andrews), 2: Wellington, 3. Petone and Star left Wellington behind soon after the start to fight out the best race of the day. At the half-mile Star, after rowing neck and neck, was In front, but Petone put on a spurt and won by three-quarters of a length. Youths’ Fours. —Star (T. Alexander, G. Gibbons, S. Sidford. G. Broad), 1; Petouo (H. Hobbs, R. Scott, A, Linney, K. Boswell), 2; Wellington, 3. Won by threequarters of a length. Maiden Pairs.—Star (D. Didsbury and P. Dennehy). 1; Wellington. 2. Won by four lengths. Lightweight Malden Fours.—Star (J. Chicken, J. MeWhinnie. B. Webb. D. Castloberg). 1; Wellington No. 1 (R. Nicoison. F. Thornton. A. Coulston, S. Watson), 2; Wellington No. 2, 3. Also started. Petone. Star closely challenged Wellington No. 1 and provided a very close finish. Senior Pairs. —Star (G. Cooko and F. .Mullins), 1; Petone No. 1 (0. Clayton and A. Hope), 2; Petone No. 2, 3. Won by three lengths and a half. Junior Pairs.—As No. 1 crew of the three Petone crews refused to start, the starter declared it no race.
