L. J. Ellis will ride Kinnoull in the Wellington Cup. He has advised the connections of Cuddle to this effect, though a Tiniaru report says that wiiiie Kiunouil has paid up in the Cup, a definite decision regarding his starting wlli not be made till later. It must be fairly definite, however, for Ellis to forgo a ride on Cuddle. Reefi Not Available.

When Ellis informed Cuddle’s party of his inability to take the mount on the mare an effort was made to secure the services of It. Reed, but Reed is engaged to ride Grand Jury. The mount will remain vacant in the meantime, and there should be no difficulty in securing the services of a competent rider, as there is a limited number in the Cup over lightweights. Both to Start.

It is the intention of J. W. Lowe to start both .Red Sun and Sunee in the Wellington Cup. Red Sun will be ridden by the southern lightweight C. T. Wilson, and Sunee will again have the services of G. Tattersail. Beneficial Rain. Steady rain on Monday night and yesterday has softened the tracks at Trentham. and they will be in excellent order for the meeting provided the weather clears. No Early Arrivals. There are no visiting horses at Trentham yet, and. as usual, the bulk of the outside contingent is not expected till near the eve of the meeting. For Yearling Sales. The Randwick trainer George Price will be paying his annual visit to the New Zealand yearling sales again this year. Me will leave Sydney by the Makura on January 16. and return by the Monowai on January 21. Making Room. Knockfln is being offered for sale at Trentham next week, because of her owner having a large number of young horses ready to be put into work, and room has to be made for them. The.-e include two fillies and a eolt, all by Hunting Song from Grey Eyes, by Grey.-pear from Bella Donna, a half-sister to Knocklynn, dam of Knockfln. There is also a youngster by Lord Warden from Venmichar, dam of Scratchmere Scar, and another by Lord Warden from Pledge, who is represented in IL Nurse’s stable by the three-year-old Swordstick by Ila pier, who is expected to soon distinguish himself in public. This season Knoeklynn, Pledge and Vennachar each has a colt foal by Lord Warden.

Return Visit. The New Zealand jockey B. 11. Sullivan, who has been riding in Melbourne for some months, arrived in Auckland ou Saturday on a short visit to see his parents. Sullivan will return to Melbourne at the end of the month, and will again do the riding for Mr. W. R. Kembali. In Good Shape. At Hastings on Saturday Speed and Queen’s Pride pleased by the manner in which they struck out over six furlongs, registering I.IBJ (says the “Tribune”). Speed failed at Awapuni and Tattherenikau, but now back to seven furlongs at Ashhurst, may show something like his old form, as he appears to be in very fine condition. Queen’s Pride is to take on the Ashhurst Cup, in which she has been weighted at 7.5 and. providing an average rider is engaged, this Wairaraipa winner will not lack for Hastings friends.

A Successful Campaign. The Rieearton trainer. J. S. Shaw, had a most suc-ees-ful trip to the West Coast circuit with his t<am. In all he sup plied 11 winners, eight second and three third placegetters, and the stake money earned amounted to £852/10/-, the details being as follows:—Mclleath.
