CHAMPIONSHIP CRICKET
No Anniversary Day Play The Wellington Cricket Association, last night decided not to play championship games on Anniversary Day. The proposal was considered at a meeting before the holidays and deferred to enable delegates to consult the clubs. At the meeting last night it was debated again. Mr. J. 11. I’hillipps. chairman of the sentior championship connutitee, advised by letter that his personal opinion was that there should be play all day on January 22. in the event of rain on that day, however, the matched should stand postponed. Pclone advised that it favoured play on Anniversary Day. Karori applied for permission to play Rangitikei on that day. ’ Reports that some of the other first-grade teams did not favour play on Anniversary Day were made. . . A report was presented that the junior championship committee considered that Hower grade matches should not be played. It was decided that the wishes of the clubs should be respected, and permission was given Karori to play Rangitikei. It was suggested that the subject ot policy toward play on Anniversary Day might be dismissed at the next annual meeting of club delegates, as well as the question of playing on Labour Day. Mr. P. B. Broad presided over an attendance of Messrs. 1. Nimmo. D. Rust, L. Pointon, J. 8. Hanna, M - J- IL Christopherson (treasurer)' and A. Varney (secretary).
