Waipukurau, January 13.
An outbreak of fire that "'as quickly extinguished by tiie brigade occurred at 6.45 p.m. yesterday when considerable damage resulted to the stock of Messrs. L. Hawke and Co., electricians and radio and music dealers, also a small loss in Mr. E. C. Woodward’s pharmacy adjoining.- The building, which is owned by Mr. A. E. Jull, was only slightly damaged. The cause was possibly a dropped cigarette butt. The stock, plant, and office furniture of Hawke and Company were insured for £957, while Mr. Woodward and Mr. Jull were also covered against loss. A dwelling owned and occupied by Mr. R. McNabb, of Takapau, was totally destroyed by fire at the week-end, th? origin being unknown. The insurances are understood to be £350 on the house and £250 on the furniture in the National office. Some articles wer? saved.
