CLYDE QUAY SCHOOL

Ex-Pupils’ Celebrations Ex-pupils of the Clyde Quay Sehhol arc holding functions this afternoon and evening in connection with the closing down for all time of the old school. Several generations have passed through the corridors of this school during the -16 years of its existence,

and most o£ these doubtless cherish memories of their happy school days spent- there. Now, through changes in the neighbourhood and the yeucroachment of business on what was once a. purely residential area, the school has to go. The site has been sold to the Wellington Fire Board, and is to serve as the location of the new central station. To mark the occasion of the closing there is to be a function at the school at 2 p.in. to-day, when addresses will be delivered by the Minister of Education, Hon. P. Fraser, the chairman of the Education Board, Mr. W. V. Dyer, aud the chairman of the Ex-Pupils’ Association, Mr. A. R. Hislop. At the evening functions the ex-pupils are to assemble at the old school, where Mr. W. T. Grundy (the first headmaster) will ring the school bell for the last time. Then all will proceed to the Elizabeth Street School, where a social gathering will be held. The speakers there will include the Attorney-General, the Hon. H. G. R. Mason, who is an ex-pupil of the Clyde Quay School.
