NORWEGIAN I.AID-UP TONNAGE. On October 1 last there were 64 ships ot 355,610 tons dw. laid up in Norwegian ports, compared with 50 ot 297,566 tons a month previously, an increase of 58,044 tons dw. It would appear that the bulk of this somewhat heavy increase is due to the number of tankers going out of commission, for of the total on October 1 oil carriers numbered 30 of 290,145 tons dw., compared with 22 of 208.305 tons on September 1. The average size of the units laid up was 0000 tons dw., against 5010 tons in the previous return, an indication that more of the larger tankers have joined the ranks ot the unemployed. The total figure on October 1 represents 6.7 per cent, of the entire Norwegian merchant fleet, against -J.6 a month previously.
