ASSEMBLY HALL PLAN

Hutt Valley High School SCHEME TO PROCEED A decision to take immediate steps to proceed with the erection of the kmgprojeeted assembly hall for the Hutt \ alley'High School was made by the board of governors of the school last night. The ehairman. Mr. C. E. Dowland, presided over a full attendance of members. The secretary, Mr. J. N. Miilard, reported that the parents' association at a recent meeting decided to approach the board of governors to consider ways and means of taking advantage of the Unemployment Board's present other ot * 33 1-3 per cent, .subsidy, which rt-ally meant a donation of over £7OO toward the cost of the hall. The association thought it might be .possible for the board ot governors to arrange guarantees for a loan of £lOO9. principal and interest to be paid by the parents at the rate of not less than £lOO per annum. It was stated by Mr. Millard that the hall would cost £2200, ami there was at present just over £470 in the I’umL .The money to be found, le.ss a subsidy ol l-o per cent, from the Unemployment Board, would be approximately £lOOO. ( In reply to a question. Mr. 11. G. Teagle said there was nothing further to report regarding the Baldwin Trust donation of £lOOO. The position was that the board could not now expect the donation. Mr. Teagle said the board should accept the offer of the parents’ association and so take advantage of the Unemployment Board’s subsidy. “Mr. .Millard said the ideal method of financing the scheme would be to get, say, 10 guarantors to guarantee an overdraft for £lOO9 in the name of tire parents’ association, which would liquidate the liability. , Mr, Teagle immediately came forward with an offer to become one of such guarantors. , It was mentioned that the Unemployment Board’s subsidy offer would expire at the end of this month. Ou the motion of Mr. Teagle it. was decided .to thank the pareids’ association for its offer, and to take the necessary steps to move in the direction of securing the assembly hall.
