Napier-Gisborne Railway

MINISTER’S TOUR

An inspection of active and suspended public works in different parts of New Zealand is to be made by the Minister of Public Works, Hon. R. Semple, who will begin his tour to-morrow, leaving Wellington by ear for Napier and the East Coast. For the greater part of next week the Minister, who will lie accompanied by the engineer-in-cliief of the Public Works Department, Mr. C. ■). McKenzie, wiP inspect the route of the interrupted railway between Napier and Gisborne and the work which has already been done, but which, since the depression, has been abandoned.

Early in the new year, Mr. Semple, accompanied by the Minister of Mines, Hon. P. C. Webb, will make a tour of the West Coast of the South Island and many other districts. According to present arrangements, the Ministers will leave Wellington on January 6 for Nelson, thereafter visiting the West Coast, the Canterbury district and right down to the far south of the island. The complete itinerary is not yet available.
