Presentation of Prizes Tile animal prize-giving ceremony o£ Wellington Girls’ College took place io the Concert Chamber o£ the Town Hail yesterday morning, there being present members o£ the board o£ governors, the college staff, a number of parents and friends, and the pupils of the college. On the stage with the principal, Miss V. M. Grei" were the members of the board of "•overnors, the staff, Miss Batham, principal of "Wellington East Girls’ College, who presented the prizes, Mrs. P. Fraser, wife of the Minister of Education (who was unable to be present owing to a meeting of Cabinet), -Miss Irvine-Smith, Miss Mary McLean, a former principal of the college, and Mr. It. A. The pleasure with which students went about their work in other countries was stressed by Miss Greig, who said site had returned to New Zealand more keen on education than ever before ami with the definite hope of fostering a love of education for its own sake. Miss Greig then read the report of the college year. Use of Leisure. A short address was given by Mrs. Knox Gilmer, who was loudly cheered by all the girls. Mrs. Gilmer referred to the gradual mechanisation of the world’s industries, and to how it was expected that the machine age would gradually give more leisure hours. It was her hope that the girls would bc able to make the fullest use of such leisure ami that it might be used profitably. Referring to the advance of women.
