CHARGES OF MURDER

Simla, August 29. Twenty-three men of the First Battalion of the King’s Liverpool Regiment have been handed over to the civil authorities for trial on charges of murder arising out of the rioting near Jubbulpore on July 17.
It was reported in the House of Commons on July 24 that on July 17 women of the village of Karotli were frightened by a British soldier, and, fearing molestation. gave an alarm, whereupon some villagers turned out and assaulted the soldier. who was rescued by an individual from another village and is now in hospital. The next night a party of men from his regiment raided another village, mistaking it for Karodi. and injured 13 villngers, one of whom later died. The .shipment announced that as soon as the in';..lent was reported the local military commander began an investigation in consultation with the civil authorities, and that in the meantime the regiment concerned, was confined, to barracks.
