Miramar’s Open Day A PRONOUNCED SUCCESS Despite a blustering wind and low temperature, the open day held by the Miramar ladies’ club yesterday proved a pronounced success. The entries numbered about 136, and included Mrs. Guy Williams, of Masterton, president of the New Zealand Ladies’ Golf Union; Miss Joan Hornabrook, of Masterton, winner of the Miramar ladies’ open championship last year; Mrs. Tomlinson, captain of the Masterton ladies’ dub, Miss Joan Petrie, of Nelson; and many other competitors from clubs outside Wellington. . , The day’s play proved a triumph for members of the Shandon mid-week ladies’ club. The medal round in the morning was won by Mrs. Saunders, with a card reading 98-18-80, the runner-up being Mrs. Vance, with 99-17-82. In the junior division, Mrs. Cameron came first, with 106-27-79, the next best performers being Mrs. Caughley,. 101-20-81, and, Mrs. Marsden, 101-20-81. The bogey foursomes in the afternoon was won by Mrs. Black and Mrs. Paterson, both of the Shandon ladies’ midweek club, who played above their handicaps, and finished 2 down. The putting prize was won by Miss E. G. Plimmer. The prizes were presented by Miss Gambrill, captain of the Miramar ladies’ club, who expressed pleasure at the large entry, and congratulated the winners of the competitions. Mrs. Tomlinson, in returning thanks on behalf of the visitors, referred to the excellence of the course, and the hospitality of the Miramar ladies’ club. 'Miss Taylor, the competent lion, secretary of the Miramar ladies’ club, had all the machinery running very smoothly.
