CHATHAM CUP FINAL National Mutual Cup Rugby Match A number of important outdoor attractions will be staged this afternoon. Soccer Matches. Followers of Association football will enjoy an unusually attractive programme at the Basin Reserve, where Auckland and Wellington will meet in a Flyger Cup match at 1.15, and Eirst 15 Division teams from Wairarapa and Wellington will oppose each other at the same hour. The final of the New Zealand Chatham Cup will be played between Western (Christchurch) and Hospital (Wellington) at 2.45. A fifth division representative match between Wellington and Wairarapa will be played at 12.15 p.m. Rugby Programme. Though the Wellington Rugby Union’s representative team will be playing Wairarapa at Masterton this afternoon, followers of the game in Wellington will have much to interest them. The annual match for the National Mutual Cup, between Petone, the 1935 champion team, and Hutt, the runners-up, will be played at Athletic Park at 3 p.m., and this will be preceded by a trial match between a team from the senior A colts and a fifteen from the senior A second division and the senior B 'vision at 1.30 p.m. Rugby Leagtm The principal Rugby League event will be the match between Hawke’s Bay and Wellington at the Winter Show stadium at 3 o'clock. A curtain-raiser will be supplied by a match between the Petone and Randwick Club teams at 1.45 p.m. Hockey Gaines. The Wellington Hockey Association’s programme this afternoon includes. a match between Karori and the shield team at Karori Park at 3 p.m. Senior B, junior, third, and fourth grade competitions will be continued. Women’s Hockey. There will be three women’s hockey representative matches played at Newtown Park. At 2 o’clock, on No. 1 ground, Wellington and Wairaraua juniors will meet, while on the adjoining ground, at the same time, the intermediate and third divisions representatives will play their annual match. At 3 o’clock the senior B game between Wellington and Wairarapa will be played on No. 1 ground. There will be no competition matches played today. The Golf Card.
The principal event on the golf programme to-day will be the match between the Miramar and Wellington clubs. The A teams will meet at Miramar and the B teams at Heretaunga. A Canadian foursome bogey competition will be played on the Waiwetu links this afternoon. An L.G.U. round and a Stableford bogey competition will be played by the Waiwetu Ladies’ Club to-day. A Stablei'ol'd competition figures on the Manor Park Ladies’ Club’s card for today. The Strathmore Park Ladies Club will play a bogey competition this afternoon. The monthly bogey event will be played on the Shandon links to-day. A bogey competition for both A and B grade players will be played by the Karori Ladies’ Club to-day. The first round for the championships and the third round for captain’s trophy, will be played on the Karori links to-morrow. Other players will engage in a Stableford competition. A bogey competition for both A grade and B grade players will be played on the Sunny Bay links to-morrow. An L.G.U. round will be played bv the Shandon Ladies’ Club to-morrow. The Titahi Ladies’ Club will play a bogey match to-morrow. The Paekakariki Ladies’ Club will hold an open day to-morrow. A medal round yyill be played in the morning, and a foursome bogey competition in the afternoon. The qualifying rounds for the Sievwright Cup will be played on the Mornington links to-morrow. A match will be played between the Tui Glen and ilthletic clubs on the Tui Glen course to-morrow. A Ranish Cup match will be played between the Shandon and Paekakariki clubs on the Shandon links to-morrow. Wheelbarrow Race. A wheelbarrow race will be held at Upper Hutt at 7 o’clock to-night in aid of the District Nurse Fund. The course will be from the Druids’ Hall to the Council Chambers. Harriers. , Club runs and club championships will engage the attention of Wellington harrier clubs to-day. Much interest is evinced in the New Zealand University crosscountry championships, which arc being held over a 10,000-metre course at Cashmere, Christchurch, the Wellington team, which travelled south On Thursday night, taking with them a handsome teams’ trophy given by Mr. F. Dixon, president of the Victoria club. The championship, which was held at Lyall Bay, was won by Otago, which won the individual and teams’ sections, and which will be given retrospective claim to Mr. Dixon’s trophy. Road Cycling. The second race for the Hope Gibbons Shield will be held from Island Bay this afternoon, when an exciting teams' race should be witnessed. Petone A and Poneke B are at present leading, bnt Port Nicholson and Poneke A should give them a good go for it this afternoon. The Cash Cycling Club will hold a 15miles race this afternoon, starting at 2.15.
TO PLAY WAIRARAPA Wellington Team Travels to Masterton TO-DAY’S MATCH The return match between the Rugby representative teams of Wellington and Wairarapa will be played at Masterton this afternoon. The first match between the two teams was played in muiT at Athletic Park toward the end of July, Wellington winning comfortably by 23 points to 3. Since then the Wairarapa team has had the benefit of a southern tour, including a Ranfurly Shield game with Canterbury which was lost by 27 points to 16. and a game with Manawatu on Wednesday which was drawn. As Manawatu beat both Taranaki and Hawke’s Bay, the present form of Wairarapa must be good, and Wellington is sure to meet strenuous opposition. The teams for to-day arc: WELLINGTON. The Wellington Colts team, which is to tour the West Coast and Marlborough, will be completed following the trial match.
