REGULATED SUPPLIES
New Zealand Lamb on British Market
“If Australia had a regulated supply of lamb like New Zealand, I say that New- Zealand lamb never would have gone below the 7}d. mark this year. I say that after serious consideration,” declared Mr, T. A. Duncan, chairman of the New Zealand Meat Producers’ Board, in the course of his address to the annual meeting of delegates, to emphasise the importance of regulated shipments to the United Kingdom on the part of all producers. “The regulation of shipments to the best advantage has again received careful attention, and it can , fairly be claimed that the system has been markedly successful over a long period in avoiding excessive fluctuations in prices and maintaining a higher average than would have been secured under conditions of alternate glut and scarcity- This satisfactory result has been achieved by constant study of many factors, which may influence market prices. “The spread of meat supplies over as wide a geographical area as possible in the British market is another important aspect of this question. WhHe at Home, Mr. Fraser (the genera, manager) and I had an opportunity of seeing something of the specia. ‘New Zealand weeks’ which are organised by the board in the populous centres, and we were very impressed with the valuable work being carried out by the London office throughout these areas.”
