HOUSING PROBLEM
Help For Local Bodies?
The housing shortage was the subject of a question by Mr. C. 11. Chapman (Lab., Wellington North) in the House of Representatives yesterday. Mr. Chapman gave notice to ask the Minister of Finance whether it was intended at an early date to proffer help to local bodies, so that steps could be taken to meet the acute housing shortage. He said that the cessation of house building during recent years had created a position in which rents had risen to a figure above the ability of many thousands of citizens to pay.
