WHEELBARROW RACE

Upper Hutt Contest For District Nurse Fund

Upper Hutt, like its neighbouring borough, has become “wheelbarrow minded,” and on Saturday night at 7 o’clock a race will be run from the Druids’ Hall, down the main road to the council chambers. Tho object of the race is to aid the district nurse fund.

Cr. G. H. Guthrie is organising the event and accepting nominations, the cost of which is 2/6 for each pair of contestant®.

A number of prominent Upper Hutt citizens have entered, including Mr. J. Purvis, who is a mejnber of the borough council and the district's representative on the Hospital Board. His pusher will be the local Rugby star, Mr. Stan Maher.

Mr. J. J. Maher, of the Hutt County Council and Hutt Valley Electric Power Board, will be judge, and the starter will be Cr. W. Greig. Other councillors will assist in various ways.

It is reported that the appointment of the district nurse will be made by the Hospital Board to-night.
