Brander Defeats Nicol

Invercargill, August 28.
A professional boxing contest of 15 two-minute rounds, between Les Brander, list. 101 b., of New South Wales, and Ray Nicol, 12st. 21b., of Ohai, was won by Brander on points. The referee prevented clinching and this made the bout fast and open, but did not suit Nicol. In a professional preliminary contest Billy Sullivan, 12st, 21b., of Ohai, defeated Alex Dasler, list. 51b., of Wellington, on points. OFFER ACCEPTED Palmer to Get £lOOO For First English Fight (Received August 29, 12.50 pan.) Melbourne, August 28. Ambrose Palmer, light-heavyweight boxing champion of Australia, has accepted an offer of £lOOO from a promoter at Wembley for his first fight, win, lose, or draw. His opponent will be either Len Harvey, Ben Forde, or Eddie Phillips, the present British light-heavyweight champion. Palmer, If successful, will enter eliminating contests, and will finally meet Jack Petersen.
